Commercial/ Net-Billing Systems

For consumers with high consumption Net-Billing PV systems are ideal to offset their electricity bill. Net-Billing systems sizes range from 10kWp up to 10Mwp and are available for all Industrial, Commercial and Residential users. The maximum system size that can be installed is determined by (i) the Load Entitlement of the user as specified by the EAC and/or the (ii) total annual consumption of the user.

The maximum installed PV system cannot exceed 80% of the Load Entitlement or the expected production of the PV system should not exceed the total annual consumption. See Examples below on maximum PV system calculation.

In Net-Billing PV systems the generated energy can be consumed directly by the user as in the case of Net-Metering PV systems. Any exported energy to the Grid is credited to the user according to the current EAC avoidance cost during the specific billing cycle. In the case that the credit is greater than the consumption bill during the billing period, the excess amount is then credited to the next billing period. The credit can be carried over up to the last billing day which occurs either October or November (again according to the user’s billing period). Any excess credit after that date is lost and not carried over.

Example A:

  • An Industrial user has a Load Entitlement of 100kVA and annual consumption of 120,000kWh.
  • The estimated production for a PV system installed at the user’s location is estimated at 1650kWh/kWp per year.
  • The maximum PV system that can be installed according to the Load Entitlement is: 80% x 100kVA = 80kWp.
  • The maximum PV system that can be installed according to the Annual Consumption is: 120,000kWh/year / 1650kWh/kWp/year = 72.7kWp.
  • Therefore, the maximum system that can be installed for the specific user is 72.7kWp.

Example B:

  • A Commercial user has a Load Entitlement of 80kVA and annual consumption of 200,000kWh.
  • The estimated production for a PV system installed at the user’s location is estimated at 1750kWh/kWp per year.
  • The maximum PV system that can be installed according to the Load Entitlement is: 80% x 80kVA = 64kWp.
  • The maximum PV system that can be installed according to the Annual Consumption is: 200,000kWh/year / 1750kWh/kWp/year = 114.3kWp.

Therefore, the maximum system that can be installed for the specific user is 64kWp.
